Enchanted Rock, Fredericksburg TX
WIND. I can’t say it enough of just how insane the gusty winds were yesterday at enchanted! We only made it 1/2 way up the summit due to the wind (I seriously felt I was going to blow over and roll all the way down). However we did successfully hike the loop trail which was 4 miles. I felt so empowered and emotional when we reached back to our starting point three hours later. We hiked through some massive boulders and at a pretty steep incline. I love getting lost out in Nature it’s just so rejuvenating!
We prepared snacks and water but not enough water! We had to ration our water towards the end so make sure you bring PLENTY of water. It was 65 degrees but with the wind it was such a perfect temperature for this long hike. Along the trail we had a coyote run out in front of us, stop and stared then high tailed it into the river grasses! That was a little spooky but really neat to see in its natural habitat. The really spooky part was noticing all the TONS of wild pig tracks along the river beds and under the trees 😬 I knew (ok I hoped) they wouldn’t be out bedded down during the day and that they would be out and about elsewhere but it was very very active along the river with tracks so I knew we were in THEIR territory (I grabbed a large stick and picked up my pace a bit). Trust me! You do not want to come across any wild pigs!!
The Scenic Views
There were just too many epic locations to not take pictures. This spot was one crevest I came across and had to take a peak!
I loved seeing all the natural plants and wildlife. I’ve never seen so many rock squirrels!
If you live in Texas or plan to visit make sure this state park is on your list! Adult daily entry is $7 and no pets on the summit only on designated trails. We always make sure to arrive at state parks before 9:30am to ensure we get entry. Some days they hit maximum capacity and the wait can be HOURS!!
